Paris Haute Couture: On Aura Tout Vu

The most exclusive fashion week in the world is Paris Haute Couture Week, it takes fashion and her craft to a whole new level. One of the most magical shows on the calendar is On Aura Tout Vu. This season’s theme was the “Cosmic Beetle” and afterwards we partied at the VIP club on Rue de Rivoli drinking champage to the Beetlejuice theme gala. From the moment I opened my invited with a black printed beetle, I knew the show would have something special to reveal.

The show consisted of Kopenhagen Fur, the most prestigious in the world, Swarovski crystals, and the tour de force: over 11,000 Thai beetle wings in illuminating colors. There is nothing more mystical and magical in nature then one of the most pre-historic creatures the beetle, which contrasts against its ability to survive giving it a futuristic element. Vogue announces the coming of an exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art which celebrates the two decades between 1860 and 1880 .

The French bourgeoisie of the late 19th century are muses to me. I love how disciplined they were in their snobbery and perfection with their attire. They seemed to be bound by the law of forcing out anything that was too natural. Everything regimented, nothing organic and in flow. A highly structured code of decorum, style, wit, education, privilege, nobility and status. And yet they are my muses because and not in spite of all of this self discipline; forming their morals and midriffs into unnatural contortions, because they had each pushed, prodded and pulled each other that tight. Maybe I am nothing like this, but maybe I am inspired by them in some way; inspired by the unwavering symbolism of certainty and rules, that I tend to rebel against. All in all I search for the balance. Tie me up, tie me down….then let me strip it all off and run naked and free and natural into the waves of reverie.
